I've been talking a lot about the 40 Bags in 40 Days Decluttering Challenge I'll doing during Lent this year. I'm just so excited about it! I've been planning out the best strategies for organizing the piles of clutter I'll be getting rid of. While the purest form of this challenge is to fill bags with stuff, I know that I will have trouble keeping track of where all of my clutter is going if everything is in identical bags. So here's what I've come up with.
I'm going to have three big boxes or tubs in my basement labeled with:
- children's resale
As I clean out each of my 40 spaces, I'm going to take every item and plop it in its appropriate box. When the "donate" bin gets full, I'll take it to the local thrift store. Before I put anything in the "sell" bin, I'll take a picture of it and post the item on a facebook resale page or craigslist. And the "resale" bin I'll take care of later after I buy a seller's packet for the upcoming children's resale. Anything that needs to be thrown out will go directly into the dumpster so I'm not tempted to reevaluate its value.
I'm sure that I'll be tweaking this method as I go along, but I think it seems pretty solid for now.
