2 months

DSCF4218 At two months, Amelia weighs about 11 1/2 lbs, close to double her birth weight. She mostly skipped over the 0-3 month size and is now in 3 month clothes. She is still doing a great job of eating and napping on a regular schedule and sleeping 5-6 hours at night between feedings.

Some milestones Amelia has achieved this month are:

- smiling when someone talks to her - holding her head up while on her stomach - rolling from her belly to her back

Elias enjoys watching her move and likes to point out her body parts. He also gives her unprompted kisses throughout the day. My heart fills with joy every time I see it.

Amelia is one month!

I forgot how fast newborns change! In a month's time, we went from this ...

to this ...

Her cheeks have filled out, she's lost most of the dark hair on top of her head, she's into the next size of clothes, and she's tracking close objects. The days are flying by, but we're trying to soak up all the cute noises and funny faces before they're gone.

We have been so blessed by family and friends with diapers, clothes, and freezer meals. Our supply is dwindling, but there are still several meals in the freezer! One of these days, I'm going to have to remember how to cook again.

Amelia Grace

On January 4th, Amelia Grace surprised us by coming two days sooner than we had planned. She was scheduled to come via cesarean on the 6th, but I was pretty happy that my water broke early. We ended up staying in the hospital during most of the really cold and bad winter weather. After two hours of labor, Amelia was born by c-section at 6:40 a.m. She weighed 6 lbs 7 oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. Compared to the long labor and emergency surgery I had with Elias, this was a breeze. The only complications I had were an allergic reaction to a medication, which was fixed by another medication, and some bleeding from my incision the day after the surgery because of a persistent cough. Aside from those two issues, my recovery has been pretty quick and pain free.

Amelia has been a good eater and sleeper from day one. At six days old, she had already regained and surpassed her birth weight.

Little bits of her personality are starting to show. She has very little patience when it comes to food. When she wants it, she wants it five minutes ago. Same with sleeping. When she's tired, she wants to be asleep instantly. She definitely gets these first two traits from me. She's pretty easy going when it comes to Elias being too rough with her. So far she's been poked in the eye, slapped in the head, pulled off my breast daily, had her pacifier yanked from her mouth only to have it pushed back in two seconds later, and been rolled on (Elias is normally pretty gentle with her, giving kisses and petting her head, but he is a little boy who has not yet learned a ton of self control so I can't be too hard on him).

Choosing the name Amelia Grace was both a difficult and extremely easy process. As soon as we found out we were having a girl, we decided her middle name would be Grace, after an older lady from Peter's home church who has been instrumental in his life. I absolutely love the biblical definition of grace: "the free and unmerited favor of God." What a beautiful reminder to Amelia and to us of God's everlasting and freely given love.

Finding a first name that we both liked was much harder. Our only filter going into the search was that it needed to start with a vowel. Peter loved the name Amelia right from the beginning. It took me a few months, but I soon came to love it as well. Now that there is a little person to go with it, Amelia seems like such an obvious choice. It means "industrious leader." My prayer is that she will be a strong leader for God and have a heart that is tender towards people so she can be a daily example of Christ to her world.

Elias is 1!

A few hours old

One year old

Elias turned one on April 10th! I cannot believe how fast this year has gone. When he was born, that was probably the number one thing people told us, "It will go by so fast." As new parents we didn't realize just how fast that would be.

We love you Elias and are so proud of how much you've learned and grown in your first year on earth. Our prayer is that you would continue to grow and learn, especially about your Heavenly Father who loves you more than mommy or daddy ever could.

11 months!

Elias is getting really good at standing up. He likes to practice on his dresser.

Baby gates have become essential since he's now crawling at high speeds and climbing stairs.

He still loves to try new food and is now basically eating everything we eat.

It's always fun when Tomass comes over to play.

Every once in a while I can keep something on his head long enough to take a picture. He's becoming very picky about things touching him lately. He'll even push my hands off if I'm trying to steady him or just keep track of him.

We both spent about two weeks being sick. This was one of several colds we've gotten this winter. Hopefully, with spring so close, we'll be done with all that.

Plants are intriguing, as are strings. He will turn around in circles, dragging a string behind him for 10+ minutes.

Elias recently discovered he has a tongue! And it's long!

Stomach sleeping has become a thing in the last two weeks. These pictures were taken while we were in Texas. Being outside all day tuckered him out!

10 months!

One of Elias' favorite things to do right now is hold clothes pins, spatulas, and spoons. He crawls around, hitting everything and turning the clothes pin around in his hands. He also combs his hair with it.

Oh, and yes. I did say that he's crawling! He's getting quite fast and seems to be enjoying his independence. He's also discovering stairs, but can't get up them by himself yet.

Standing up (especially in the bathtub) and cruising around are two other things that occupy his waking moments.

And let's not forget about food. He has a ravenous appetite and will eat anything except avocados and tea.

Anything that moves around in circles is fun: steering wheels, tops, his exersaucer, balls ...

Bath time always produces lots of giggles.

Number Bean Bags

This weekend, during the cold and snow, I decided to try making these number bean bags. They were pretty easy, though the numbers were a little time consuming.

I used scraps that I already had (most of which were from thisĀ quiet book I made Elias for Christmas) and a bag of pinto beans that happened to be sitting on the shelf, so this was a free project that didn't require running to the store. Just the kind I like.

9 months!

Somehow, my baby is 9 months old! This last month has brought many new things. Elias now has his own room, which we all think is awesome. So far, he's only had one night since we've moved in to our new house where he's actually slept all night in his room, but we'll get there. He is also becoming rather mobile! Although he can't crawl yet, he can scootch on his belly and bottom, go from a sitting to crawling position, and pull himself up to an almost standing position. He also loves to walk and run while holding onto our fingers. Often when he's sitting on my lap, he'll reach for my fingers and then scoot off of my knees onto floor. When the time comes that he can walk on his own, he's going to be a hard one to catch. He loves to play, talk, and mimic others. Today, I caught him trying to whistle like me.

Technology is still his favorite. Remote controls, cellphones, computers, the iPad, mouse ... you name it. If it has lights or makes noise and is black or silver, he wants it.

At the doctor's today, he was 18.1 lbs and 27 1/2 inches long. He hasn't grown too much since his 6 month visit, but that doesn't surprise me. I expect him to be rather petite at least through elementary school.

Elias is becoming more expressive as well.

Some of his newly discovered skills are opening and closing things (books, cupboards, boxes, baby wipes containers), turning the lights off (he can push the switch down but hasn't figured out how to pull it up yet), tearing paper (this was a hit over Christmas), and flirting with girls (particularly his aunts). He is a champion at sitting up and can almost get there from laying down by himself.

Color Quiet Book

A few months ago, I decided that I was going to make Elias a quiet book for Christmas. Since then, I've been on the quest for the right kind of quiet book. I finally found what I was looking for about a month ago ... a quiet book of colors, with each page being a different color of the rainbow. I began collecting fabric and was able to put it together last week. I added some buttons (sewn on very securely!), ribbon tags, and zippers. cover red and orange yellow and green blue and purple back

Seven Months!

He's such a happy little guy!

Sitting up pretty well.

He still falls over on occasion ...

but it usually doesn't hurt.

If only lamb twirling were a thing.

Tags are his new favorite thing. He finds them on every single toy.

Love this face and the leg pose.

Looking at each other in the mirror.

So much drool!

6 months

Somehow, Elias is already 6 months! He's currently in the my-teeth-are-hurting-so-I'm-going-to-be-fussy-through-the-night-stage. We're all adjusting to that, so the days following fitful nights are getting better. He's also sitting up by himself pretty well. He'll wobble a bit, and can't yet bring himself into a seated position, but he sure is trying!

I don't know what that face is!

Airplane with daddy. He really enjoys this!

He loves anything electronic! Also, check out those long, wispy hairs.

Sitting up all by himself, cheering for the Wolverines (who won by the way).

Tiger party with Tomass!

Spaghetti

This month at the preschool, we're talking about the five senses. When we were learning about the sense of touch, Rachel boiled some spaghetti for the kids to put their hands in. Elias got to play with it when the kids were done. He loved it! We had to keep the pacifier in so he wouldn't eat the spaghetti though.

5 Months

I'm late in getting these pictures up. My excuse is that we moved and the computer we use for pictures was just recently connected to the internet. So, in a few weeks, you'll get the 6 month pictures ;)

All dressed up! I made Elias this shirt for Sam's wedding from one of Peter's old shirts that was stained. Of course, we had to do a little photo shoot with him wearing it, along with the tie the Lehman's gave him the day he was born.

His first time eating banana!

Upset that the food is gone.

Thankfully, he's easily distracted.

So happy. I'm very thankful we have a mostly content and joyful baby.

Spending some time with Nonna and Grandpa before my cousin's wedding.

Goofy

Precious

Elias loves reading books. He gets so excited that he actually shakes!

Four Months!

That lamb sure is starting to look small!

Now that the weather has gotten nicer (except for today), Elias and I have been spending time outside. He loves to look up at the trees and sky. I'm so glad he enjoys the outdoors.

Apparently we're raising a little bookworm.

Watching and listening to daddy play guitar and sing.

His first time strumming the guitar.

Bathtime with daddy!

Love all those rolls!

We discovered a new game. This little rolly toy sings whenever you push on him. It didn't take Elias long to figure that out.

Super excited about having his picture taken. This is totally a face Peter makes.

When daddy goes to Cedar Point for the day, mommy and Elias play dress up. He looks pretty good in flannel I think.
